8th ERLUS Forum in Rosenheim:
Insights on law, timber construction and regionality

What moves carpenters forward

By Bianca Marklstorfer

Neufahrn. Solid craftsmanship with a strong future outlook: Contractors have full order books as roofs are being energy-efficiently renovated and timber construction continues to grow in popularity. This optimistic trend was also evident at the 8th ERLUS Forum at Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences, attended by 300 contractors and specialist trade companies. Four expert presentations and a panel discussion once again made the ERLUS Forum a successful networking event.

ERLUS, the carpenters’ guild and Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences shared knowledge and connected people for the eighth time. In engaging and practical expert presentations, speakers Norman Alexander, Dr. Josef Braml, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Maren Kohaus and Dietrich Weder discussed, among other topics, how to read minds, the opportunities of a renewed focus on a strong Europe and greater regionality, the relationship between timber architecture and weathering atlases, and why precise specifications can prevent legal disputes.

Hoeneß: Don’t talk Germany down

Both thought-provoking and entertaining was the concluding panel discussion with Uli Hoeneß, honorary president of FC Bayern Munich. ERLUS Board Member for Sales Andreas Wilhelm and Head of Sales Roof Ceramics Guido Hörer also asked Hoeneß about determination. Germany must not be talked down, said Hoeneß. Honest craftsmanship, strong partnerships, a stable economy, and people who take action and—like a coach—bring out the best in others will move Germany forward.

Young talent in timber construction is growing

Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences remains an important driver for the industry. Currently, around 1,000 students are working with wood as a material. Capacity expansion is underway, sending a strong signal for the next generation of skilled workers. University President Heinrich Köster also advocated for stronger regional criteria in European tenders and provided insights into the further development of the campus.

Less talk, more action

“Success is a matter of one’s own strength,” summarized Guido Hörer, Head of Sales Roof Ceramics at ERLUS, capturing the central message. Successful companies rely on clean processes, cooperative partnerships, and technical expertise. Or as Uli Hoeneß put it: “Stop complaining—roll up your sleeves and get to work.” The positive business climate provides additional momentum for the industry and sustainably strengthens future prospects for craftsmanship and timber construction.
