How the ERLUS solar roof becomes an integral part of the building envelope

Neufahrn. Photovoltaics integrated directly into the roof surface: With the solar roof for the Level RS, ERLUS introduces an in-roof photovoltaic system specifically designed for this flat tile model. The ERLUS solar roof replaces the traditional roof covering and becomes an energy-generating integral part of the building envelope.

The PV modules are based on the shape and linear design of the angular, smooth Level RS tile. An aluminum module base rail ensures a clean and durable finish for the solar roof module – both between the individual modules and in transition to the dark roof tile surface.

The geometry of the replacement tile module, adopted from the roof tile with triple head and side interlocks, ensures reliable rainproof performance tested according to EN 15601. As a result, the solar roof achieves the same level of rain protection as the Level RS tile covering, even at low roof pitches. The modules are installed similarly to roof tiles and mechanically fixed. One module covers the area of 6.5 Level RS tiles. Cable routing on the module and MC4 connectors are provided for the electrical connections. The power output of 194 Wp/m2 (+5%) is comparable to conventional on-roof systems. 

Protection against wind and hail

The solar roof achieves the tested hail resistance class HW 4 and is listed in the hail register. The solar glass withstands ice impact test bodies with a diameter of up to 4 cm. The 3.2 mm thick tempered solar glass and the aluminum rail on the lower edge significantly contribute to break resistance, durability, and long service life. Snow, hail, and UV radiation play just as minor a role for the ERLUS solar roof as they do for all ERLUS roof tiles. To ensure high wind uplift resistance, the modules are screwed, clamped, and additionally secured with a protected rear safety hook. The solar roof is classified as a hard roof covering according to BROOF (t1). The product warranty is 10 years, while the performance warranty guarantees 80% of nominal output for 20 years.  

Suitable for new construction and renovation

With an area weight of approximately 17.5 kg, the ERLUS solar roof is suitable for both new construction and roof renovations. Since the solar roof is an integral part of the roof surface, it is fully considered in energy-efficient renovations under the funding measures of the German Development Bank (KfW), for example in funding program 261 (renovation to an efficiency house standard or purchase of renovated properties), both in terms of loans and repayment grants.
